It was a tough time but you can’t do anything about injuries, says Prithvi Shaw on missing the Australia Test series
Prithvi Shaw has revealed that he was disappointed after missing out the Test series in Australia due to injury as it was a good challenge for him to play Down Under. The Mumbai top-order batsman also said that Skipper Virat Kohli’s words of praise and encouragement meant a lot to him.
After an impressive debut series against the Windies at home, Shaw sustained an ankle injury during the warm-up game during the Australia tour which resulted in him missing the entire Test series Down Under. India had to bring in Mayank Agarwal and the Karnataka batsman made his debut in the Boxing Day Test match at the top of the order. However, after recovering from that injury, he is now busy playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament for Mumbai.
“It was a tough time, to be honest, but you can't do anything about the injury, it can happen any time. But yeah, I was a bit disappointed because it was a good challenge for me, going to Australia for the first time & facing the best fast bowlers & to play against them it would be my pleasure,” Shaw told CricketNext.
“I was waiting for that tour but this injury happened. Still very happy that I was not there but still we came up with a win against Australia, I was really happy for India but I was a bit disappointed
Shaw impressed one and all in his debut game against the Windies in Rajkot by scoring 134 at the top of the Indian batting order and soon backed it up with a 70 and 33* in the second Test in Hyderabad. India skipper Virat Kohli had heaped praise on the youngster back then after Shaw had scored his maiden Test ton.
“We are not even 10% of what he is but those kind words really mean a lot for me, for a youngster to be honest. We always talk about cricket; off the field as well he shares his thoughts because he has already played so much cricket. He is the number one batsman in the world and he shares a lot of his experiences - whatever he has done before and how he has come this far,” the Mumbai batsman said.
Speaking about the conversation with Sachin Tendulkar, Shaw explained, “We didn't meet but before going to Australia we had a conversation because obviously he has got 15-20 years of experience
