Bhuvneshwar Kumar played down concerns of being ousted from the starting XI after he revealed that it was important to get some well deserved rest in order to perform consistently. Kumar also spoke about the bond that he was formed with Jasprit Bumrah which has helped India on multiple occasions.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been one of the standout performers in recent years for the Indian national team across all three formats of cricket on the international stage. The 29-year old has formed a strong partnership with fellow pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, and the other members of the Indian pace bowling department.

However, with the emergence of Mohammed Shami as an out-an-out fast bowler alongside Bumrah’s accuracy, Bhuvneshwar stands the risk of dropping to the bench for the upcoming 2019 ICC ODI World Cup which will be played in England.

The veteran pacer, though, insists that it was all a matter of perspective as he revealed that he was the one who asked to be rested after being part of the squad that played the away series against New Zealand last month.

"I'm not worried about who's getting a chance and who's not getting. More importantly, it's about getting rest. Shami got rest in New Zealand, I got rest in this series. You want to be consistent and for that you want to be fit. That's the reason why I took rest," Bhuvneshwar told TOI in a recent interview.

The seasoned SRH bowler also went on to shed some insight into the strong partnership that he has developed alongside youngster - Jasprit Bumrah. The duo have more often than not helped India in tough situations as the latter made his way to the top of the ICC ODI bowlers rankings in the last year as well.

"If Bumrah is taking wickets then I can contain runs, so that there's pressure on the batsmen. These are things which we keep working on.

"Not just two of us but as a bowling unit, we keep in mind that if somebody is picking wickets, the other bowler's job is to not give away any runs. It could be vice versa, I could be taking wickets and he could be containing," Bumrah added.
