VIDEO | Rishabh Pant pulls off an MS Dhoni to save India DRS in the face of Kuldeep-Kohli confident appeal
After Rishabh Pant gave a sneak-peak of what he could do with the bat, he made sure that India didn’t miss MS Dhoni as much as they should have. While Kuldeep Yadav and Virat Kohli wanted to go for a review, Rishabh Pant stopped them by saying it had come from the bat, which saved India a review.
Pant has been a very good hitter and despite his limited-overs international career saying otherwise, it doesn’t rule out the fact that he is trying to play out those cameos on a consistent basis. That attitude is something that has earned him many plaudits on the Indian cricketing circuit, but his keeping has left a lot to be desired.
However, by perfectly assisting Kuldeep Yadav and Virat Kohli, he reminded everyone of MS Dhoni. On the second delivery of the 25th over, Kuldeep tried to lure the batsman with a loopy delivery which landed on the middle and off to beat Peter Handscomb who tried to flick it away. Although two noises came on the way, Kuldeep appealed massively, thinking the ball might have hit the pads first before hitting the bat.
Kohli came forward and seemed equally enthusiastic about the appeal, but wisely decided to consult with Pant who had the better visual of everything that happened in front of the stumps. Pant instantly gestured that the first sound came from the bat and despite Kuldeep insisting that it was a dismissal, Pant managed to convince him about his thinking. Eventually, Pant proved to be right as the replays suggested that the ball had hit the bat first before hitting on the pad.
