England head coach Trevor Bayliss has stated that the skipper Eoin Morgan holds the key to final changes from the preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup. The skipper has a lot of choices in front of him in Jofra Archer, David Willey, Liam Dawson and Joe Denly for the spot of a bowler.

It is a known fact that the captains play an important role with respect to the selection of a team in cricket. England have a good selection headache in front of them with respect to the position of an additional bowler for their squad. The head coach Trevor Bayliss did not shy away from the fact that the captain Eoin Morgan will have a final say.

"If it got down to a bit of a stalemate in discussions, in the four years that I've been here the captain gets a big say. He's got to be the one comfortable with going out on the field with the other ten players. The captain has a very big say,” he said, reported AFP.

Most of the bowlers in the England squad can bat pretty well which makes them a strong side. The hosts named Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes, David Willey and Mark Wood among their pacers and all-rounders in the preliminary squad. With the likeliness of Jofra Archer or even spinner Liam Dawson coming in, one among leg-spinner Denly or pacer Willey might have to miss out. The coach Bayliss believes that is how things happen in professional sport.

"Unfortunately one or two guys have to miss out, that's just the way it is in professional sport,” he expressed.

Dawson had injured on the tour to Sri Lanka and did not play against Pakistan in the home series that followed, despite gaining fitness. But the Australian, whose coaching contract ends with the Ashes, reckoned that he is still in contention for a place.

"He's been in conversations for the last six months or more, certainly. He was in Sri Lanka with us and if it wasn't for an injury he'd have probably finished that series and possibly gone to the West Indies as well. He will get a good hearing at the selection meeting,” revealed the 56-year-old.

Denly, on the other hand, is a top order batsman but was played as a spinner in all the games against Pakistan, as pointed out by the former First Class cricketer.

"The decision we have got to make is that Denly covers a few positions. His batting is obviously his strength and obviously a bowls few leg-spinners as well,” Bayliss explained.

All-rounder Dawson has only played three ODIs and last featured in two ODIs against Sri Lanka but did not have much to show. He has, however, been churning out good performances for his county side Hampshire and may still make a cut if the management decides to go in with a third spinner.

"With Dawson, he's not a bad batter either, but he's been selected in previous squads, like in Sri Lanka, as a third spinner. You would have to say he's the next best spinner. That's the decision we have to mull over, discuss and see which way we go,” Bayliss signed off.
