After an impressive run of form in home conditions, Mayank Agarwal has broken into the Test top-10 rankings while Virat Kohli reduced the gap to three points with Steve Smith to retain the second spot. Meanwhile, Neil Wagner has jumped five places to secure the No.3 position among the bowlers.

Mayank Agarwal is currently on a roll and the experience is real. After flourishing in the overseas tour, Agarwal was at the top of his game in the comfort of his own territory, scoring runs for fun which included two double centuries. That also helped him gain points towards the ratings as well, as the Bangalore boy achieved a career-best rating point of 700.

That also meant England captain Joe Root, who is having a terrible run in Test cricket lately, has dropped from the top 10 for the first time since August 2014. Ben Stokes, meanwhile, reached the top 10 for the first time by jumping three places after scores of 91 and 28 against New Zealand.

While Steve Smith reclaimed the No.1 batting position after a mad Ashes series, which saw him accumulate as many as 774 runs in four games, Virat Kohli closed the gap from 26 to three points thanks to his 136 against Bangladesh in Indore. Apart from him and Agarwal, Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are the other Indian players in the top-10 batsmen rankings.

With a stunning display in the last series, India's pace battery have made a solid case for themselves to be considered as the best unit in the world which has now been validated by the ICC. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav achieved career-high points after victories over Bangladesh. Ishant has 716 points but is still in 17th place and Umesh has 672 points and has jumped one place to 21st.

Ravichandran Ashwin moved one place up to ninth with 772 points, while injury-sidelined Jasprit Bumrah lost one spot to be at fifth with 794 rating points. With impressive bowling upfront, Neil Wagner moved up to No.3 among bowlers in the ICC Test rankings and gained five places after bagging eight wickets, including a five-for in the second innings, to lead New Zealand to victory in the first-ever Test in Mount Maunganui.
