Gautam Gambhir is delighted as Sourav Ganguly is appointed as BCCI President and he hopes that his reign will extend for more than 10 months. Ganguly, having served six years in the administration, will face a compulsory 3-year cooling-off period after he will have to leave this position.

The BCCI, for the last three years, was accused of having no transparency and was claimed to be ruled by bureaucrats and politicians. But with Sourav Ganguly being appointed as the BCCI President, cricket fraternity in India is hopeful that he will bring BCCI back on track. Ganguly's main focus will be on improving the situation in domestic cricket. This shows his desire to nurture young prodigies and future prospects, just like he did with the likes of Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, etc when he captained India. Gautam Gambhir was very happy with Ganguly's selection for the post.

"Indian cricket has been scoring winners across the board. For starters, former India captain Sourav Ganguly being announced as the next BCCI president is a big leap taken by Indian cricket," he wrote in his column for TOI.

"Normally, BCCI functioning is seen as regressive and opaque but this unprecedented move to have a former cricketer in this important post is a pleasant aberration," he added.

Gambhir was sure that having seen the developments done by the former Indian skipper in the administration being the Chairman of the Cricket Association of Bengal, the latter would do a fine job as BCCI President, provided he gets more than ten months in this role.

"The changes he has brought about at Cricket Association of Bengal is a clear indication that Dada is not merely a former cricketer who'd bring on-field changes," he wrote.

"His administrative skills will be tested but if I know Dada well, his ability of inclusive growth will hold him in good stead. But I just hope that Dada gets more than 10 months to perform otherwise it will be a wasted exercise," he added.

Gambhir further said that Ganguly will need the support of the BCCI officials in order to do well as a President. He also commented on the contribution Late Jagmohan Dalmiya had in helping Ganguly unearth talents like Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, etc. He believed that Indian cricket will be looked upon more interestingly from now on as Ganguly begins his new innings as President of BCCI.

"Things would have been challenging for Dada without the support of the late Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya. While he and then coach John Wright groomed guys like Sehwag, Nehra, Yuvraj, Harbhajan and Zaheer, Dada was also lucky to have all-out support from Dravid, Kumble, Tendulkar and Laxman. He'd need similar support now again from the BCCI bigwigs who know where the landmines are. Trust me, the world will be watching Indian cricket with even more interest from now on," Gambhir added.
