MS Dhoni will be signing off soon, let it happen when it has to, presses Ravi Shastri
India head coach Ravi Shastri has come out and said that former captain MS Dhoniâs retirement episode should be left alone and requested everyone to let the eventuality of it happen when it has to. Shastri further slammed Dhoniâs critics and said theyâre not able enough to comment on the veteran.

The rumours and probability of MS Dhoniâs retirement has been doing the rounds for long now and people havenât stopped asking questions. Everyoneâs anticipating an update on the subject but Dhoni hasnât shown any signs of immediate retirement or even otherwise. While people have a lot to say about Dhoni, Shastri believes that half of these people arenât equipped enough to even comment on the legendary cricketer.
âHalf the guys commenting on MS Dhoni canât even tie their shoelaces. Look at what heâs achieved for the country. Why are people in a hurry to see him off? Maybe, they donât find enough talking points. He and everybody who knows him know heâll be going away soon. So, let it happen when it has to. Making statements at his expense is downright disrespectful,â Shastri was quoted as saying by TOI.
Further on, Shastri believes that Dhoni, like no one else, knows whatâs best for Indian cricket and when he does hang his boots heâll absolutely be spot on with his call.
âAfter 15 years of playing for India, wouldnât he know whatâs the right thing to do? When he retired from Test cricket, what did he say? That Wriddhiman Saha was good enough to be handed over the wicket-keeping gloves. He was correct. Heâs been a shadow when it comes to the team, always sharing his mind, lending his views,â Shastri added.
Meanwhile, Dhoni was there to congratulate debutant Shabaz Nadeem after a successful maiden Test appearance at Ranchi, playing against South Africa. The former captain met the team and staff at the Indian dressing room and it was Virat Kohli who said at the post-match press conference that Dhoni was around at that time. Shastri has praised that effort by the veteran cricketer and added that for the work he has done, he deserves to sign off whenever he wants.
âThe other day, he came over to the dressing room in Ranchi to meet Shahbaz Nadeem and had a chat â how motivating is that for a guy making his debut at home. Let me say this: MS Dhoni has earned the right to retire when he wants to. And let this debate end once and for all.â
