Ashes 2019 | If I miss them, I have to do push-ups, says Justin Langer on slip-catching practice
Australian coach Justin Langer has revealed that he has to do 10 push-ups if he misses edging one to any of the slips waiting in-line for some fielding practice. Langer also joked about how good a ‘nicker’ he was at scoring plenty towards the third-man region during his playing days.
During one of the training sessions ahead of the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, cameramen at the ground caught Justin Langer doing some push-ups amidst giving fielding practice to his players. When asked about this routine at the pre-match press conference, Langer revealed that the team had mixed in some fun and banter to make the sessions more enjoyable.
“If I miss the nicks, I’ve got to do a few push-ups, that’s all. If they miss them, then they get a little spray from the coach. So a bit of banter, a bit of humour,” Langer said, reported cricket.com.au.
The former Australian opener further added how he was a very good batsman when it came to playing through the slip cordon back in his playing days.
“(It) happens very rarely these days, I’m a very, very good nicker. I was as a player and I am now. I used to score a lot of runs to third man. Probably not the most attractive batsman to watch,” Langer added.
