Sachin, Ganguly take subtle dig at current players for fielding restrictions and two new balls
Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have taken a cheeky dig at the modern-day cricketers for the restrictions on the playing field and use of two new balls in an ODI game. The duo was involved in the banter after the ICC posted a photo celebrating their iconic batting partnership in ODI cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have shared as many as 38 century partnerships in all internationals - 26 in ODIs and 12 in Tests - making it the most by any two cricketers. The partnership was crucial to many an Indian victory during their time and was arguably the most fluent batting duo as well.
They did all that at a time when the old powerplay in all blocks across 50 overs was in force. Currently, only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle in the first 10 overs while four fielders are allowed in the next 30 overs. For the remaining 10 overs, five fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle.
When ICC posted a picture to celebrate the duo’s achievements, with a picture and captioned that with their partnership achievements, Tendulkar decided to have some fun, by saying they would have probably scored more runs had the current rules applied during their playing days.
"This brings back wonderful memories Dadi. How many more do you think we would've been able to score with the restriction of four fielders outside the ring and 2 new balls?" tweeted Tendulkar.

Ganguly, who is the BCCI president now, decided to drop his guard and joined his old friend in the banter. The Southpaw stated that not only the field restrictions, but the two new balls would have been of big help to them.
"Another 4000 or so...2 new balls...wow...sounds like a cover drive flying to the boundary in the first over of the game...for the remaining 50 overs," Ganguly added.
