Virender Sehwag is of the opinion that Sourav Ganguly made India stronger allowing them to win matches abroad, while Dhoni took it forward. Sehwag further added that Dhoni did not have great difficulty in preparing a new team as Ganguly already formed a team with the confidence to win matches.

Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni have taken Indian cricket to great heights with their brilliant leadership quality. However, fans and cricket experts are still having debates on who is the best among the two.

Under Ganguly’s leadership, India won an ODI and Test series in Pakistan, drew the Border-Gavaskar trophy, and reached the 2003 World Cup final. Whereas Dhoni led the team to win three ICC trophies - the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and the Champions Trophy title in 2013. Virender Sehwag is one of the players who have played under both captains. The former Indian opener stated that Ganguly built the team from scratch and taught the team to win matches in overseas conditions.

"They were both good captains but the best I thought was Sourav Ganguly. Because Ganguly built a team from scratch where he picked new and promising players and rebuilt the team and taught India to win abroad. We drew Test series, learnt to win Test matches," Sehwag said on the YouTube show '13 Jawab Nahi' with RJ Raunak.

Sehwag was part of winning two ICC major events under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The cricketer-turned-commentator reckoned that Dhoni had just the responsibility to develop the team and it was not a difficult task for him to prepare the team for winning matches. He further added that Ganguly was the best captain of Team India

"MS Dhoni had the advantage of a developed team so when he became captain, it wasn't too difficult for him to prepare a new team. Hence, both were good, but in my opinion, Ganguly was the best captain," Sehwag added.
