IND vs WI 2022 | We see something different in Ravi Bishnoi, believes Rohit Sharma
India’s limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma has said that Ravi Bishnoi's ‘variations and skill-sets’ and his ability to bowl at any stage gives the team a lot of options to rotate bowlers. Bishnoi made his senior international debut against West Indies in the first T20I match, on February 16.
Ravi Bishnoi, the 21-year-old leg-spinner from Jodhpur, became the first player from India’s Under-19 World Cup 2020 squad to make his debut for the senior side when he received his international cap from Yuzvendra Chahal ahead of India’s first of three-match T20I series at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He made it count, returning impressive figures of 2-17 in four overs to be adjudged Player of the Match. He helped India restrict West Indies to 157/7 after Rohit Sharma asked the visitors to bat first. India then reached the target comfortably in 18.5 overs with six wickets in hand.
Speaking about Bishnoi’s impact, Rohit, at the post-match presentation, said, “Bishnoi is a very talented guy which is why we drafted him into the squad straightaway. We see something different in him. He's got a lot of variations and skill-sets with him. He can bowl at any stage and it gives us a lot of options to rotate the other bowlers. Very happy with his first game for India and he's got a bright future and it's just about us now on how we use him”.
Having completed 3-0 sweep in the ODIs earlier, India have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I following their win on Wednesday. During the chase, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat, scoring 19-ball 40 and 18-ball 34 not out respectively. Venkatesh Iyer chipped in with handy contributions as well, remaining not out on 13-ball 24, including a six that finished things off in style.
India will again take on West Indies on February 18 at the same venue in the second match in the aim to secure the T20I series as well.
