Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni said that opting to bat first after winning the toss was not a very good idea against Gujarat Titans after suffering a seven-wicket defeat. Dhoni further added that the team will be looking forward to giving chances to the players on the bench in upcoming games.

IPL 2022 has been a nightmare for Chennai Super Kings. The defending champions are already out of the title contention as they are now ruled out of the race to playoffs. In their latest game, CSK suffered a defeat against Gujarat Titans by seven wickets. The team chose to bat first after winning the toss and setting a low target for the opposition led to their defeat. Reflecting on the loss, MS Dhoni admitted that it was a mistake to prefer batting first.

"Batting first wasn't a very good idea. It was tough to hit the faster bowlers in the first half, spinners-wise it was similar," Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

CSK posted a total of 133/5 in the first innings and GT chased down the target in the last over. Wriddhiman Saha scored a half-century in the match and played a crucial role in win. N Jagadeesan and Matheesha Pathirana played for CSK in the game. Dhoni said that the team is looking forward to testing their bench strength in the remaining games.

"Sai bowled well. We could have pushed Shivam up but would have beaten the purpose of having Jaggi in the side. Had it been earlier in the tournament, it would have been a tactical move to have Shivam in,” Dhoni said.

"With Pathirana, the margin of error is bigger. He's got a good slower one and it will be tough to hit him if he bowls consistent pace. We will look to give people chances.”

"We are trying to feature a good XI and will look to do that in the coming games also.”
