There’s a saying that comebacks should be better than setbacks. However, Gujarat Titans’ Wriddhiman Saha failed to exemplify the saying during the ongoing IPL 2024 as he got out inside the powerplay for yet another occasion against Punjab Kings to only cross-check for a bat malfunction.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first in their last game of the edition at Mullanpur did not kick off desirably for the Punjab Kings after the powerplay. Their middle order fell prey to bowling brilliance from the spin triumvirate of R Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad, before some late cameos lower down the order propelled PBKS to 142 in 20 overs. In reply, Wriddhiman Saha failed to live up to the Titans’ expectations after falling prey to Arshdeep Singh in the fourth over and checking his bat in disbelief.

On the fourth ball of the fourth over, Arshdeep Singh came over the wicket and dished a good length delivery well outside the off stump to Saha. The batter intended to be aggressive and tried to heave over mid-wicket only to get hit at the cue end of the willow. The ball flew towards Ashutosh Sharma at mid-wicket who pounced at the catching opportunity and offered the first blood. Saha was seen shellshocked at the crease and had a brief look at his own bat before trudging off the field after getting dismissed inside the powerplay in all his matches of the season, thereby sending the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
