The sweetest victories in cricket are when you turn the tables and serve your opponent a taste of their own medicine. A similar incident unfolded on the second day of the Pakistan-Bangladesh Test, as Mohammad Rizwan’s spectacular catch led to Zakir Hasan’s dismissal with a hint of retribution.

‌Pakistan dominated the first two days with Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan’s 240-run partnership setting the tone. Clinical centuries from both batters propelled the hosts to 448/6 before skipper Shan Masood declared the innings. Additionally, Bangladesh’s openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan cautiously navigated the remainder of Day 2 and ended the day at 27/0.

Resuming on Day 3, the overnight batters continued their defensive approach and occasionally rotated the strike. However, Naseem Shah broke through when Mohammad Rizwan pulled off a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Hasan.

On the final ball of the 17th over, Shah delivered a back-of-a-length ball outside the off stump. Furthermore, Hasan attempted an off-side drive but with minimal foot movement, resulting in a thick outside edge. The ball flew towards the first slip where Babar Azam was stationed. But Rizwan redefined Pakistan’s fielding standards and leapt to his left and snatched the ball with one hand. Lying on the ground after the catch, Rizwan was warmly embraced by Babar and the rest of the team. The catch sparked a flurry of discussion on Twitter with many comparing it to Zakir’s impressive grab in the first innings which dismissed Abdullah Shafique.
