Test cricket is often said to teach life’s lessons. Primarily a bowler, Akash Deep’s grit and orthodox batting technique helped India avoid the follow-on on the fourth day's play at the Gabba, impressing captain Rohit Sharma so much that he began shadow practicing in the dressing room.

With a couple of days left in the third Test, India failed to get a rosy morning start after Rohit Sharma fell cheaply to Pat Cummins' shrewd tactics. However, KL Rahul'84 and Ravindra Jadeja's fifty showcased enough grit to propel India near the line to avoid a follow-on. However, the Aussie quicks without Josh Hazlewood turned the tables after the rain-forced Tea break by getting the wickets of Mohammed Siraj and Jadeja in haste. With India sailing a 33-run deficit and a wicket in hand, Akash Deep's composure came to the fore under Jasprit Bumrah's presence. Following a Bumrah six off Cummins in the third session, Akash showed solid technique to nail the gap and reduce the deficit of getting a follow-on. The Men in Blue tried to counter Australia against an advantage with a watchful batting. As a result, the Bengal pacer replicated his heroics from his Bengal days where he played a solid role in taking the team out of adversity. Seeing his formidable orthodox batting, captain Rohit Sharma was impressed and tried to emulate him in the dressing room, prompting the Twitterverse abuzz.
