‌Tough times test individuals and the sport of cricket often offers a similar stage to the cricketers. Former Ireland skipper, Andy Balbirnie seemed to struggle against Arshdeep Singh’s skillful bowling and eventually succumbed as India and Ireland squared off in New York on Wednesday.

As Ireland and India geared up for their curtain raiser in the T20 World Cup 2024, there were plenty of talks revolving around the Nassau County Cricket Club’s drop-in pitch where Sri Lanka were bundled for a paltry 77. With Rohit Sharma winning the toss and electing to field, Arshdeep Singh showcased his new ball art by extracting the wickets of Ireland's openers in the third over itself. However, the brilliant setup to dismiss Balbirnie was the talk of the town during the first half of the innings.

Following a back of a length and a short delivery, Arshdeep cramped Balbirnie for room with an in-swinger on the fifth ball of the third over. Keeping the batter guessing, the left-arm quick bowled a length delivery with a scrambled seam right on the money to push the right-hander on the back foot. While Balbirnie looked to fend it from the crease, he failed to read the variation as the ball kept with the angle to beat the outside edge and kiss the top of the off stump. Seeing the brilliant set-up from the Indian bowler, the Twitter erupted in awe.
