Duleep Trophy | Mayank Agarwal takes over as India A captain following Shubman Gill's selection for Bangladesh series

Mayank Agarwal has been appointed as the captain of India A for the remainder of the 2024 Duleep Trophy. He takes over the role from Shubman Gill, who has been selected for Team India's squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh which begins on 19th September in Chennai.

‌Agarwal brings a wealth of leadership experience, having captained Karnataka in last season’s Ranji Trophy. The Karnataka bred will play a pivotal role as India A faces off against India D in their upcoming match, set to begin on Thursday, September 12, in Anantpur. The top-order batter will replace Gill for the team's second-round Duleep Trophy match against India D.

Gill captained India A in their opening-round loss to India B in Bengaluru and has been selected for India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, which begins on September 19.

Other players leaving India A to join the national side include Dhruv Jurel, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep. Replacements for these players include Akshay Narang, Shaik Rasheed, and Shams Mulani. Additionally,  Prasidh Krishna, who missed the first round due to a knee injury, will return to the India A squad.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, and Yash Dayal from India B have also received national call-ups and will be replaced by Rinku Singh, Suyash Prabhudessai, and Himanshu Mantri. For India D, Nishant Sindhu and Vidwath Kaverappa will step in for Axar Patel and Tushar Deshpande, respectively, while the India C squad remains unchanged.
