GT vs RR | Twitter explodes as Parag turns a terrible review into an unnecessary debate with umpire

With the advent of DRS, the cricketing world has seen significant technological advancements, yet some players continue to misuse the system. Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag did just that and opted for a needless review after being clearly dismissed, which led to a heated exchange with the umpire.

‌In response to Gujarat Titans’ 217/6, the visitors were off to a terrible start with Yashasvi Jasiwal and Nitish Rana getting out within the third over. However, Riyan Parag and Samson didn't waste much time and accelerated the scorecard to 57/2  at the end of the powerplay. Additionally, it was Gujarat’s impact sub Kulwant Khejrroliya who took the important wicket of Parag, leading to some drama.

On the fourth delivery of the seventh over, Khejroliya bowled a full delivery angled across outside off, prompting Riyan Parag to push at it, only to edge it to Jos Buttler, who completed a straightforward catch behind the stumps. Umpire Rohan Pandit raised his finger, but Parag confidently opted for DRS. UltraEdge confirmed a spike as the ball passed the bat, and the on-field decision of 'out' was upheld. Unconvinced, Parag argued that the spike was caused by his bat hitting the ground and expressed his frustration while walking off, engaging in a brief discussion with umpires Akshay Totre and Rohan Pandit—a moment that quickly drew reactions across social media.
