It is rare to see Steve Smith celebrate wildly on the field after taking a catch, but he ran around after a catch during the second Test against England in Brisbane. The Australian skipper had a stunning take at slips to end Will Jacks' defiant innings before going cock-a-hoop around the Gabba.

‌England’s overnight pair of Ben Stokes and Will Jacks came out hoping to put on a gritty show, with the primary aim of making Australia bat again in the second Test in Brisbane. The pair were partly successful in doing that, playing out the entire first session without losing a single wicket.

Starting the day at 134/6, the pair added 59 runs in a dour session to go into the green, while batting out 24 overs. The pair looked settled and looked like batting for long as they extended their partnership to 96 from 220 balls. Australia needed something special to find a breakthrough, and who better than Steve Smith to provide that.

With Alex Carey standing up to the stumps, pacer Michael Neser stuck to his tight short of a length bowling around the off stump and was finally rewarded with a wicket, courtesy of a superhuman effort from the stand-in skipper. Jacks, who had played 91 balls by then, nicked one past Carey only to find a diving Steve Smith.

The Aussie skipper was placed at second slip and showed excellent anticipation to dive to his left to pull off a one-handed blinder. He was so thrilled that he went hopping around the ground like a kid, exulting in celebrations, with the teammates rushing to applaud an extraordinary effort.

Twitter was in awe as the Aussie skipper took a low catch, that too diving to his wrong side, to bring the hosts right back into the game. The lead was only at 47, and the visitors were seven wickets down as the fielding side took a giant step towards clinching the second game.
