Strong mental characters are often lauded for their ability to bounce back after a setback. New Zealand batter Finn Allen showcased a similar trait after being hit down at the helmet grill as he took on Thomas Rogers for consecutive boundaries at the renovated Optus Stadium, Perth.

Aiming to soar through the ranks in the points table, the Melbourne Renegades and the Perth Scorchers went one-on-one in the ongoing BBL 14. The visitors had the luck during the toss and they fielded first, aiming to make early inroads with the ball. Tom Rogers did as the doctor ordered but failed to carry the momentum halfway through the opening over as Allen ripped him apart.

After a wide, dot and three runs, Rogers came over the wicket and dished a hard length delivery into Allen. The wicketkeeper-batter tried to pull it across the line but failed to judge the extra bounce off the surface and incurred a thud at the helmet grill. The team doctor stormed into the field, assessed for a potential concussion, and returned back to the dugout. Right after, he shimmied down the ground and flat batted a fuller one at the woods from Rogers as the white rock raced towards the long-on ropes. The next ball was sent skyway as the ploy to pull down the length didn’t yield good result for the bowler. Allen rocked back and pulled it off the sweet spot, sending the ball over the deep mid-wicket region.

Fiery Finn!
