Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure. The popular saying turned out to be true for England batter Harry Brook who was struck flabbergasted in the crease as Varun Chakaravarthy cleaned him up after the former blamed smog for his dismissal in the previous match in Kolkata.

India followed the same blueprint of the first T20I in Kolkata as they elected to field first after winning the coin flip in Chennai. Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya were successful in drawing early wickets and keeping the pressure checked on the Three Lions early on. However, Jos Buttler looked surreal against the spinners with Harry Brook finding some confident strokes off his bat. As the pair tried to counter the Indian bowling, Chakaravarthy doused their attempt by cleaning up Brook with a seed.

After the powerplay score reflected 58/2, Chakaravarthy was summoned to operate in his home ground. Buttler took a couple of balls to get off the strike against the finger spinner before a googly, pitched outside the stumps on a fuller length beat the inside edge of Brook’s bat to castle the stumps. The right-hander, failing to read the length and variation early, tried to rock back to fend, only to realize the timbers broken in a jiffy. Right after, Brook, who blamed Kolkata smog for his last match dismissal to Chakaravarthy, had a dejection written across his face. Meanwhile, the bowler stared at him with a wry smile, prompting the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
