Ever since its establishment, the Indian Premier League has served as a premium launchpad for young and hidden talents and has transformed players into stars overnight. Riyan Parag's journey has been a more arduous one but Wednesday in Guwahati showed the stature he holds in his home state of Assam.

Rajasthan Royals' hunt for their first win of the season seemed set to continue on Wednesday as the team found itself in dire straits after being restricted to 151/9 by Kolkata Knight Riders while batting first. Even though the hosts had managed to keep themselves in the game with a tidy powerplay and some disciplined bowling, giving away just 40 runs in the first six overs, opener Quinton de Kock ultimately found stellar rhythm and almost singlehandedly took the game away from Rajasthan. Nevertheless, the occassion still made for a cause of celebration for Riyan Parag, who was afforded the privilege to stand-in as skipper for the injured Sanju Samson in his home state of Assam where he has been turning heads with his talent since his teenage years. However, the cricketing fraternity only realized what the youngster means to Assam cricket when an incident occurred in the 12th over.

Parag was on top of his mark for his fourth and final over of the day but as soon as he began his run-up, ANgkrish Raghuvanshi at the striker's end backed away and pointed behind the bowler's back. A fan had managed to breach the ground security to run on to the turf and went striaght for Parag before falling to the feet of the 23-year-old. Parag quickly bent down to bring the fan to his feet, by when security had arrived to escort the invader away from the action.

Twitterati was quick to point out the fact that Parag had first top-scored for Assam in a season at the tender age of 17 and it was no surprise he is revered such given his accomplishments for the state in domestic cricket with both bat and ball.
