NED vs NAM | Twitter sympathetic after Leicher throws Trumpelmann under bus denying single after initial call

Mix-ups between batters while running between the wickets are common and it was on display again in the Netherlands vs Namibia game in the T20 World Cup 2026 in Delhi on Tuesday. Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann was sent back by Dylan Leicher after an initial call only to see the former get run out.

‌After being put into bat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Namibia lost opener Louren Steenkamp early against the Netherlands in their T20 World Cup 2026 opener on Tuesday. However, Jan Frylinck and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton steadied the ship with a slow and composed stand.

But Namibia made up for that with quickfire cameos from skipper Gerhard Erasmus and JJ Smit, and were placed at 137/6 at the end of the 18th over with big-built Ruben Trumpelmann at the crease. He started the penultimate over with a huge six off  Bas de Leede and kept the side's hopes of going past the 160-run mark.

However, he fell victim to a terrible mix-up with Dylan Leicher a couple of balls later, and that cut short his promising stay at the crease. With Trumpelmann missing the pull off a slower bouncer, the ball went on to hit his body before landing beside the strip.

Leicher was quick to call for a single, and the batter responded immediately and started off straightaway. But seeing De Leede rush to the ball, the non-striker quickly changed his mind, leaving the batter stranded in the middle.

The bowler had nothing to do but pick the ball and jog toward the stumps and break it as the batter, who was way down, gave up his pursuit of returning. He threw his bat in the air in frustration and was not impressed with his partner’s change of mind, giving a cold look at him.

Twitter was not impressed by Leicher’s act as Namibia were denied some key runs that would have helped them end their innings on a high.
