Brian Bennett, after pulling off a blinder against Oman, proved that it was no fluke with an encore against West Indies in the T20 World Cup Super-Eight contest in Mumbai. The Zimbabwe opener ended captain Shai Hope’s stay as he completed a clinical effort at the mid-wicket fence.

‌West Indies were circumspect after being put in by Zimbabwe in their first T20 World Cup Super Eight game in Mumbai on Monday. They lost Brandon King in the third over off Richard Ngarava with the score reading just 17.

It would have been even better had Tashinga Musekiwa pouched new batter Shimron Hetmyer off a regulation chance in the very next over. The in-form batter, along with captain and fellow opener Shai Hope made full use of the sloppy effort, smashing four boundaries in the next two overs.

However, Brian Bennett, who was itching to prove that the African side were no pushovers, came up with a stunning effort to break the quickly-growing partnership. After getting smashed for a boundary off the previous delivery, medium pacer Brad Evans cleverly varied his pace, hitting the good length on middle and leg stump.

Hope was early for the slog as the ball hit the bottom of his willow before racing towards the mid-wicket fence. An alert Bennett sprinted full throttle to his left before clinging onto the tough chance and completing the dive smoothly in front of the ropes.

Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza was pumped up as Bennett coolly rolled the ball towards the umpire before walking towards his teammates.

That was special!
