Watch, WI vs ZIM | Hetmyer’s unbelievable display powers him to joint fastest fifty in current World Cup
Shimron Hetmyer continued his good showing in the T20 World Cup completing the joint-fastest fifty in the ongoing edition in the Super Eight game against Zimbabwe. The West Indies batter smashed five sixes and four fours at the Wankhede Stadium to send Zimbabwe into submission with a 19-ball fifty.

Shimron Hetmyer turned the tables on Zimbabwe after a cautious start from the West Indies in their Super Eight contest in the T20 World Cup in Mumbai. After losing opener Brandon King cheaply, the Windies benefitted from a quickfire start from the in-form batter, who smashed four boundaries in his first eight balls, to reach a comfortable 55/2 at the end of the powerplay.
Though skipper Sikandar Raza turned to spin once the fields spread, the southpaw continued in the same vein welcoming leg-spinner Graeme Cremer with two towering sixes over mid-wicket and cow corner in a 17-run over. As Raza brought himself into the attack the next over, the Rajasthan Royals went one better, smashing three more biggies past the fence.
The final of them brought the left-hander his half-century in just 19 balls, the fastest by a Windies player in the T20 showpiece and the joint-fastest in the current edition. After being dropped by Tashinga Musekiwa while at nine, Hetmyer sent the Zimbabwe bowlers and fielders on a leather hunt, with 46 runs off his 53 runs coming in fours and sixes.
And unsurprisingly, the batter was chuffed, after clearing the midwicket fence, as he held his bat upside down in the direction of the dressing room before unleashing a salute with his left hand with a wide grin. His partner Rovman Powell was quick to walk across and congratulate the batter on reaching the milestone.
What a way to bring up his half-century!
Shimron Hetmyer is unstoppable tonight as he smashes the fastest 50 for West Indies in ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. 🔥
