Watch, BBL | Edwards turns ‘Bird’wards as he goes airborne to pouch one-handed stunner
Though the Sydney Sixers had a final to forget, losing to Perth Scorchers by six wickets in the BBL at Perth Stadium, Jack Edwards had something to cheer about. The Sixers’ all-rounder pulled off a stunning catch, going fully airborne to dismiss Finn Allen, albeit late, in the run chase.

In the run chase, the Sixers were pushed out of contention with an 80-run opening wicket stand between Finn Allen and Mitchell Marsh. That more or less sealed the home side’s win, but Jack Edwards’ unbelievable effort on the field meant the Sixers had some consolation even in defeat.
With Mitchell Starc bowling a wide half volley to set batter Finn Allen, the Kiwi had no second thoughts to go for an expansive drive. Since the ball was angled far away from his body, he could only get the toe end of it, but he almost picked that gap between extra cover and mid off to perfection, but for the tall Edwards.
The Sixers’ all-rounder showed great anticipation as he dived full length to his right, as the ball stuck to his outstretched right hand. He completed the dive with the ball remaining intact before he coolly got up and rolled the ball to the umpire.
Allen could not believe what he saw before starting his long walk back to the pavilion as Sixers’ skipper Moises Henriques came towards Edwards to applaud the effort. It was a much-needed breakthrough for the visitors, although it came very late in the match and had no bearing on the result.
What a catch!
Jack Edwards!
