Delhi Capitals are all set for the IPL 2026, being led by Axar Patel. The team is among the two who are yet to win an IPL title. However, this time, they will aim to give their best, with stars such as Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, and many more available at the helm. Right before the tournament, fans were confused on who could open for the team.

Faf du Plessis was one of the key openers for the team in the last season. He partnered with Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was not able to do well last time. But without Faf du Plessis in IPL 2026, the team needed an experienced player to fill in the opening slot. Fans were confused on who could take up this spot, till Axar Patel confirmed the same.

Recently in an interview, Axar Patel said that it would be KL Rahul who will open for the team. Rahul also took up the opening slot late in the last season, when Jake Fraser-McGurk went back to Australia.

Our Take

KL Rahul has proven to be the most versatile batter, as he has adapted every batting position and game format. Now, he would be returning to the opening slot, after being pushed down to the middle order in the last season. From 2013, he has been an opener in this tournament and continues the same even in the next season.

As an opener, KL Rahul has an impressive average of 49.64, and he has also scored 5 centuries and 36 half-centuries. With Rahul returning to his original place, it is a big move for the Delhi Capitals to benefit their batting line-up.
