Cristiano Ronaldo has created history, after his brace against Apoel, in the Champions League becoming the first player to score 18 goals in the competition in a calendar year. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have topped their group after coming from behind in Germany to beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1.

Apoel 0 – 6 Real Madrid

Real Madrid sorted out their poor form in their game against Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia as their 6-0 win saw many players overturning their poor form. It started with Luka Modric breaking his barren run for the Whites as he scored for the first time since September 2016, with his long-range volley to open the scoring for the visitors.

The second goal came from Frenchman Karim Benzema, who had only scored twice all season before this match. The striker then doubled his tally for the night with a neat finish inside the area before centre-half Nacho chipped in with a clinical header in the 41st minute.

In the second half, Ronaldo headed home from Marcelo's cross and then scored from the edge of the area to become the third player in the Champions League era to score in each of the first five games of a season.

Dortmund 1 – 2 Tottenham

Tottenham, who came out on the losing side over the weekend in the North London Derby, pulled off a brilliant win away at Dortmund to secure top spot in Group H. After missing a one-on-one opportunity against Hugo Lloris, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his first goal since mid-October to hand the hosts a lead and ease the pressure on boss Peter Bosz. But Spurs turned things around in the second half as Harry Kane equalized with a clinical low strike from the edge of the box before Heung-Min Son scored the winning goal in the 76th minute.

It was a much-needed result and performance for Tottenham after the disappointment against Arsenal and can now play a second string side against Apoel in their last game of the group stage.

Sevilla 3 – 3 Liverpool

After winning two games on the trot, Liverpool could only manage a draw away to Sevilla in round five in Group E. In a dominant display in the opening half, Liverpool scored three goals, two of which were scored by Roberto Firmino and one by Sadio Mane, by the 30-minute mark and and it appeared that the Reds were on their way to reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 2009. However, in a classic example of a game of two halves, the hosts launched a fightback through Wissam Ben Yedder who scored off a corner to give the home fans some hope. After Moreno had clipped Ben Yedder, the latter scored from the spot to reduce the deficit to just one goal. The comeback was complete in the 94th minute as Guido Pizarro scored from close range to share the spoils with their English conterparts.
