Champions League | United thrash Moscow while Juventus edge past Olympiakos

Romelu Lukaku’s two goals helped Manchester United spank CSKA Moscow 4-1 in their Champions League match to move into top spot in their group. In Paris, Neymar produced a goal and an assist as PSG dismantled Bayern Munich 3-0 in a scintillating display of counterattacking football.

CSKA Moscow 1 - 4 Manchester United

Lukaku opened the account for the United in the fourth minute of the game, Martial converted a penalty in the 18th, and Lukaku doubled his tally in the 26th to end the match as a contest. On the other hand, Moscow team failed to get a shot on target until the end of the first half and the score remained 3-0. Henrikh Mkhitaryan smashed in one more goal in the 57 minute to increase the margin of the win but before the end of the encounter, Konstantin Kuchayev provided a consolation goal for the Moscow team.

Juventus 2 – 0 Olympiakos

Gonzalo Higuain’s performance helped Juventus register a 2-0 win against Olympiakos in Champions League Group D game. He was not featured in the Juventus starting lineup but the team brought him in after the hour mark and he didn’t fail to register his presence on the ground by scoring in the 69th minute. Just eleven minutes later, he doubled Juventus' tally as he was involved in the Mario Mandzukic goal, this notching their first victory of the campaign after the opening day loss to Barcelona.

Paris 3 – 0 Bayern

Paris St-Germain thrashed Bayern Munich in a star-studded Champions League showdown to go three points clear at the top of Group B. Dani Alves opened the goal tally after just 84 seconds for PSG, owing to a great run and pass by Neymar. Javi Martinez was denied an equalizer by a fantastic save from Areola, and the difference counted, as Cavani doubled the lead in the 31st minute, before Neymar added the gloss to the scoreline in the second half. 

Atletico Madrid 1 – 2 Chelsea

Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi’s last moment goal helped Chelsea register a dramatic win against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitn. The Blues fell behind to a 40th-minute Antoine Griezmann penalty despite having the better of the first half when David Luiz needlessly Lucas Hernandez's shirt. Alvaro Morata continued his fine form by scoring the equalizer, his fourth in five days. Batshuayi's winner came after missed opportunities for Cesc Fabregas and Morata as Chelsea became the first English team to win away at Atletico. Chelsea’s win also ends an 11-game unbeaten run at home in Europe for Atletico, who have reached two Champions League finals in the past four seasons. Chelsea maintained top position in Group C with six points.
