FC Goa coach Sergio Lobera will be cautious while playing against defending champions Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. Opposition coach, John Gregory, will be hoping to register their first win of the season after they lost the opening game to Bengaluru FC.

Chennaiyin FC take on FC Goa today in what promises to be a mouth-watering encounter between two top-class attacking teams. While the Gaurs were held to a 2-2 draw against NorthEast United FC in their opening match, the defending champions slumped to 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bengaluru FC in their season opener.

However, FC Goa coach - Sergio Lobera is wary of the threat that the defending champions possesses and will look to be cautious in his approach for tonight’s match. But he added that his side would not compromise on his attacking tactics.

“The squad is fit and good. I am confident about my team. Last season, we won here and we hope we can repeat that result. I think our style of football makes us strong. We have built the squad based on this style. We are made to play this style of football. As a coach, there is some aspect we have to work on, defence-wise. But we play attacking football and we look forward to playing that.

“Last season, Chennai had a defensive mentality and we had an attacking mentality and we lost the playoffs against them. In football, everything is about finding the balance and I think, we are a team that is attacking. Chennai are very dangerous in set-pieces,” Lobera said in a pre-match press conference.

Meanwhile, John Gregory will be in the hunt for his first win of the season after his side suffered a narrow defeat to Bengaluru FC in their season opener. Chennaiyin weren’t awarded the easiest of fixtures heading into the season and the Englishman spoke about how that has affected his pre-match preparation ahead of today’s game.

“We don’t get a choice. We play whoever we come up against. Bengaluru and Goa were two of the best teams last season. They were good teams and I enjoyed watching them last season. They play good football in a very enjoyable style. They are two teams I expect to be involved in the playoffs. So, it is a tough start. I’m hoping we get three points tomorrow.

“You have to limit the chances you give away. Last week, we were still only 1-0 down until the end. This happens all the time. Defensively, we will always miss someone like (Henrique) Sereno, but we have to deal with it. He’s not here anymore. His replacement, Eli Sabia, had a really good game last time out. I don’t have any worries about that. Goa, if they get half a chance, they are always likely to score. We have to be very aware of him (Corominas) and need to be switched on defensively,“ Gregory told reporters ahead of tonight’s match.
