Manchester United have paid a world-record fee to sign Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. The England International joins United after the two clubs reached an agreement for an £80m deal. Maguire signs a six-year deal with the Red Devils, with the option of extending the deal to another year.

Manchester United have finally completed a move for Leicester City star Harry Maguire for a world record fee of around 80 million. The 26-year-old signs a six-year deal with the Red Devils, although his wages and various other bonuses haven't been revealed as of yet. The English centre back has been the Red Devils’ top target for quite some-time dating back to David Moyes’ short spell with the club.

Jose Mourinho tried to sign him when he was still ruling over Manchester United, but was unable to do so. But what changed was last season’s performances which showed that Manchester United was in dire need of a world-class ball-playing centre back. As a result, Solskjaer has made sure that they reinforce his backline this summer with two new additions.

"I am delighted to have signed for this great club," Harry Maguire has said after completing his move to Manchester United. “From my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and plans he has for the team. It’s clear to see that Ole [Gunnar Solskjær] is building a team to win trophies. I am now looking forward to meeting my new teammates and getting the season started.”

Maguire becomes the Red Devil’s third signing of the year after Daniel James and Aaron wan Bissaka. The deal surpasses the previous world record deal for a defender that was set by Liverpool when they paid £75m to Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018. Manchester City was interested in the former Hull City defender but were put off by Leicester City’s asking price, which clearly hasn't affected Manchester United. Solskjaer has hinted that Maguire might make his debut against Chelsea on Sunday at Old Trafford.
