I’ve seen things today from Arsenal that I quite like, reveals Gary Neville

Gary Neville has defended the way Arsenal and Unai Emery played against Liverpool, revealing that there were a lot of positives. The Gunners were outplayed in their first real test of the season and despite an impressive first half performance, they left Anfield with their first loss of the season.

In the end, Arsenal had to settle for yet another loss at Anfield and the result now leaves them winless in their last seven visits to Liverpool. A second-half brace from Mohamed Salah and a Joel Matip header in the first half was more than enough for Liverpool to walk away with a win, despite a late Lucas Torriera goal for Arsenal.

Both sides had their fair share of chances with Sadio Mane and Nicolas Pepe both making the goalkeepers work on either side, but Arsenal failed to make the most of theirs. That combined with the fact that the North London side have now conceded 25 goals at Anfield in the process further adds to their troubles, especially with a game against Tottenham on the horizon.

But Sky Sports’ pundit Gary Neville believes that he did see a lot of positives from that game for the away side. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Manchester United star had gone on to talk about just how impressive the North Londoners were, even praising their new project.

“It’s difficult when you lose 3-1, it feels like you’ve taken a bit of a doing to take positives from it. ‘But it feels like a… a positive 3-1 defeat, if you could argue that. I’ve seen things today from Arsenal that I quite like. They are playing against a brilliant team, let’s be clear,” he said to Sky Sports.

“And that’s told today but from an Arsenal point of view we’re talking about building block by block. And I don’t mind what I’ve seen. Arsenal fans behind the goal might see it differently travelling back to London having lost 3-1.  But I think over the season it will bear out that they will do okay. ‘It’s the manner of the performance sometimes with Arsenal in the past we’ve been critical of.

"I’ve not seen that today, they are still going, they’ve not left anything in the changing room, it’s all out there on the pitch,” Neville concluded.
