After spending six years at Arsenal, Nacho Monreal is on the verge of completing a move that would see him move out of London. The 33 year old is set to be replaced in the first team by Scottish left back Kieran Tierney which would convert him into a backup role in Unai Emery’s squad.

Nacho Monreal arrived at Arsenal in 2013 and has become an integral part of the squad since then, notching up 250 appearances for the North London club. However, the arrival of Tierney means that Monreal will only play a limited role from now onwards and with only one year remaining on his Arsenal contract, the left back wants to leave the club.

Spanish radio station Onde Vasca reports that La Liga club Real Sociedad are extremely keen on landing the signature of the Spanish International and are offering him a two year contract that includes the option to extend it by another year. Monreal himself is excited to go back to return to Sociedad and the Basque country.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has made it clear that Monreal could leave this summer. Speaking at the post match press conference after the 3-1 loss to Liverpool, Emery said, “ made a very big match and he’s a very big professional for us. This is one issue we need to speak in the next few days because in Europe they don’t finish the transfer window yet, but we are going to speak about all the situations and the possibilities.

“It’s the reason I was speaking about it not being normal that we finish two weeks ago in Europe because the squad is not completely closed for us at the moment. Some players can leave but we cannot sign another and it depends a little over the next days how we can decide about some circumstances with some players. With Nacho one possibility is open and we are going to speak about that.”
