Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has hailed former player Pedro and has left the door open for return after calling him a “historic player at this club”. Pedro’s contract with Chelsea runs out next summer and is free to leave Stamford Bridge after spending four years at the London based club.

Pedro’s contract with Chelsea is set to end at the end of the season and the club hierarchy hasn’t offered him an extension which means that the Spanish winger is available on a free transfer next summer. The former Barcelona man has indicated that he would like to rejoin his former side, which is where he broke out into the world of football. The La Masia starlet began his career with Barca at the age of 17 and enjoyed a good career with the La Liga giants playing a big part alongside Lionel Messi, Xavi and Iniesta in capturing five La Ligas, three Copa Del Reys and three Champions League trophies.

He found himself out of the then coach Luis Enrique's plans after eight seasons with the Spanish giants and was sold to Chelsea for about £20million. Since then Pedro has become a key player in West London and he won more silverware as he lifted the Premier League title and the FA Cup the next year. In an interview, coach Ernesto Valverde has also opened a door to a potential return for the 32-year-old winger calling him a “historic player at this club”.

“He is a historic player at this club. He is one of the players here with the most club titles. He is at another club and we have to respect him. We will see what the future holds,” said Valverde to Daily Mail.
