Zvonimir Boban, director of AC Milan, has cast fresh doubts on the transfer of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the San Siro, citing his age and time since his last competitive match. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is rumoured to return to Europe with one of his former employers AC Milan his favoured destination.

AC Milan director Zvonimir Boban has asserted that the Italian club will only sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic if they feel there’s an absolute necessity. The Swede striker has been linked to Milan, Inter, Manchester United ever since he has left LA Galaxy after a two year spell in the MLS. Zlatan has indicated that he would favour a move to one of his previous employers rather than signing for a new club with Milan on top of his choices.

The Rossoneri have struggled in Serie A as they sit 10th in the league table with goalscoring a major letdown for the Italians as they have managed to score only 16 times in 16 games despite having a strikeforce comprising of Krzysztof Piatek, Suso, Rafael Leao and Ante Rebic. However, in an interview, Boban has revealed that Milan will move forward with negotiations only if Ibrahimovic lowers his wage demands.

“The longer it goes on, the harder it becomes. He is 38, has been inactive for two months. It's not easy to start again. Especially considering there are only five months until the end of the season. I can't repeat what Paolo said. Let's hope Ibra makes the right choice -- even for himself. We need to see how the next matches go. Ibra is a different solution to the others, he can give a lot in the short-term and for this reason he is unique,” said Boban to the ESPN.

"Let's see if there is the absolute necessity to act now or at the end of the season. Let's see if, aside from this, we need to make attacking signings. But Ibra is unique, a different player in comparison to the others even if he isn't young. He has an extreme character. When we started the conversation started, however, we were in a different league position."

Milan’s fortunes have improved slightly since Stefan Pioli took over the reins after the sack of Giampaolo Gasperini. Under Gasperini, the Milan based club reached as low as 16th but positive results in recent weeks have taken the Rossoneri to the 10th position. Zlatan Ibrahimovic played for Milan for two years between 2010-2012 and won the Scudetto in 2011. Since then, the Swede has played for Manchester United, PSG and LA Galaxy.
