Willis Plaza has mentioned that he has nothing to prove to his former club East Bengal during Churchill Brothers' match in Kolkata and wants to prove with himself and in the league. The Trinidadian has also underlined the fact that he has focussed on his game more after joining the Goa-based club.

Over the last few months, life has undergone a vast change for striker Willis Plaza. After East Bengal released the Trinidadian footballer at the business end of the I-League last year, he looked emotionally broken and was searching to get his mojo back as far as his goal-scoring abilities are concerned. The fans of the Kolkata-based club were really disappointed with his misses than his scores in the last few games of the league last year.

Before the game against his former I-League team, the Trinidadian has said that he has nothing to prove to East Bengal on his return to Kolkata but wants to do well in the league with a good performance here.

"If I say I have something to prove against East Bengal, it's going to be personal. I have something to prove in the league, with myself and not just against East Bengal. I want to prove something in every game I play," he said on Saturday, the eve of the clash against Alejandro Menendez's side, reported TOI.

"I lost my brother at that time. I was also injured. All this used to bother me a lot. But I have left behind all this and moved on. At Churchill, I had a good recovery and I focused on playing good football. Most importantly, I started scoring goals."

Plaza is of the opinion that the East Bengal fans failed to understand his problems off the field as there was a lot of reactions by the fans after Plaza failed regularly to score the goals for the Reds and Golds.

"People in Kolkata never see a problem off the field. They never see when you are taking a painkiller for a pain. They never see when you have family problems or medical problems.” the striker said.

"I kept believing in my game. If you have self-belief you gain a lot of confidence, which help you look up higher and get the best out of you.”
