I-League winning coach Khalid Jamil is all set to take charge of Mohun Bagan after reports have suggested that current coach Shankar Lal Chakraborty handed in his papers to club officials. The Mariners find themselves in sixth position on the I-League table having secured 15 points from 11 games.

Khalid Jamil etched his name in I-league history after he successfully led northeast side, Aizawl FC, to their first I-league title during the 2017 season. In doing so, Aizawl FC scripted history as they became the first north-east club to win the domestic league.

The Kuwait-born defender then went on to coach East Bengal last season and missed out on the league title by the smallest of margins on the final day of the campaign as Minerva Punjab FC won their maiden I-League trophy. East Bengal signed Khalid Jamil as their head coach with a record-breaking deal of 1.25 crore, making him the highest paid Indian coach in the history of India's top-tier football league. Jamil also guided the club to the finals of the inaugural Super Cup where they were ultimately defeated by Bengaluru FC.

However, a recent report in Goal.com has confirmed that the experienced Indian coach will now head to Mohun Bagan and assume the reins of the team after the resignation of current coach, Shankar Lal Chakraborty. The Mariners have had a tumultuous season thus far and find themselves in the sixth position on the I-League table having amassed 15 points from 11 games. In fact in their last seven matches in the league, the green and maroon brigade have been victorious on just two occasions. Bagan also lost the highly-anticipated Kolkata derby to East Bengal by a scoreline 3-2 last month.
