Judge my progress in five or six years and not now, says Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire has insisted that he’s at Manchester United for the long run and isn’t looking to leave despite the club's poor start to the season. The Red Devils have struggled to get points on the board and sit two points above the relegation zone, which makes it their worst start in over 30 years.
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed permanently in March, Manchester United have struggled to win games, especially in the Premier League. The Red Devils finished last season in sixth place and have endured their worst start to a top tier league season in 30 years with the club winning just two games so far this season. However not all has been bad for the club and they sit second in their Europa League group level on points with FZ Partizan. But their 2019/20 league form has been dismal with Crystal Palace, West Ham United and even Newcastle United beating the Red Devils.
That sees them sit just two points above the relegation zone and with a clash against Liverpool after the international break things could get even worse for the club. But summer signing Harry Maguire is confident that the club will eventually, find their groove and become successful. The Englishman went on to say that his critics cannot judge his performances after just eight odd games and added that they have to give him at least six years.
"It's the long term, that's what the main thing is. In five or six years, judge me then - whether I have been a success at this club or not. I do believe and am really confident that, in five or six years, I'll be a success and I am sure we'll have many, many good times here. We need to keep improving as a team, not just me as an individual. I feel, if we improve as a team, I'll be a success too," Maguire told the club's official magazine Inside United.
The Englishman joined the Red Devils in the summer after a long and drawn-out summer transfer saga and one that saw the club eventually break the transfer record. They shelled out a fee of around £80 million, a world-record fee for a defender and the 26-year-old has played in every game so far this season. Yet Maguire added that the price tag doesn't bother him at all because it's something that he could not affect or change.
"The price tag doesn't bother me at all. It's something that I can't affect. Leicester wanted to keep me and they are in a great position as a club. Manchester United wanted to buy me and they came to an agreement. It's probably a good deal for both parties and it's something now where I want to concentrate on my football,” concluded Maguire.
