FIFA World Cup Qualifiers | Sandesh Jhingan ruled out of India’s clash against Bangladesh
Defender Sandesh Jhingan was ruled out of India’s Group E Fifa World Cup qualifier game against Bangladesh due to an injury he sustained during a friendly match against NorthEast United. Jhingan joins a growing injury list which includes defensive midfielder Pronay Halder and defender Rahul Bheke.
India will head to the Saltlake Stadium in Kolkata to face Bangladesh on October 15 without their No.1 center-back, who delivered a good performance in India’s gallant goalless draw against Qatar last month. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed on Thursday, via their Twitter handle, that Jhingan had picked up an ankle injury during the friendly against NorthEast United in Guwahati on Wednesday.
“Owing to an injury sustained in the friendly game against NEUFC, Sandesh Jhingan has been ruled out from the forthcoming Fifa World Cup qualifier against Bangladesh on October 15. We wish him a speedy recovery. #BackTheBlue #IndianFootball #BlueTigers,” the AIFF tweeted, reported PTI.
The Blue Tigers team will land in Kolkata on Sunday without Jhingan, Halder, and Bheke — who is nursing a groin injury. The absence of the defensive trio will be a big setback for Igor Stimac, but it offers the coach to test the bench strength of the Indian team. India is currently ranked 104 in the FIFA rankings, while Bangladesh sits on the 187th position.
