Manchester United star David de Gea is a doubt for a crucial clash against Liverpool with the Spaniard forced off the field while on international duty. The Red Devils have struggled to get their season up and running with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad plagued with injuries over the last few months.

The 28-year-old Spanish star appeared to hurt his hamstring reports the BBC after taking a goal kick while on duty for Spain. De Gea was named in the lineup replacing Kepa Arrizabalaga but the Chelsea goalkeeper eventually replaced his Premier League counter-part with Spain head coach Roberto Moreno taking no chances after De Gea dropped to the ground. Arrizabalaga had been Spain’s first-choice goalkeeper over the last few months but was dropped against Sweden after he made a glaring error against Norway.

It saw the Blues’ star give away a late penalty that allowed the Norwegians to walk away with a point to their name. Not only that, it allowed De Gea to make his comeback and earn his 41 cap for his country. But, things took a turn for the worse and the BBC and Sky Sports have reported that the 28-year-old goalkeeper could potentially miss Manchester United’s crucial clash against Liverpool. A loss to the league leaders could see the Red Devils drop towards the relegation zone and that’s something that Solskjaer cannot afford to have on his resume.

If De Gea is unable to feature is not match-fit by Sunday, then the Spaniard will be replaced by Sergio Romero giving the Argentine his first Premier League start this season. So far the 32-year-old has only played in Europa League and the EFL Cup and last played in the Premier League game on the final day of the 2017/18 season under Jose Mourinho.
