We all stand behind Mauricio Pochettino, claims Toby Alderweireld
Toby Alderweireld has admitted that the squad stand in support of the manager Mauricio Pochettino after a controversial draw against rock bottom Watford. The North London giants were on course for their fifth defeat in six games before a late Dele Alli's strike denied the Hornets their first win.
English outlet BBC reports Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld has said that he and all the Tottenham’s players are behind the manager and aim to help the team in any way possible. The North Londoners have struggled to put their best foot forward over the last month or so but did well to produce a comeback against Watford as the fans saw a team that wanted to stay relevant and were willing too fight for it.
“There is a team on the pitch and you see us fighting. Everyone is behind the club and the manager otherwise we could not have put the effort we put in today,” said the Belgian defender to the BBC.
Their recent run has included a loss to Colchester in the Carabao Cup, a 7-2 defeat at home against Bayern Munich and a 3-0 away loss against Brighton. While many fans expected Tottenham to comfortably beat Watford, the North London giants conceded ten minutes into the first half. They then went on to trailed for 80 minutes at home to a Watford side who have not won a single league game this season before Dele Alli saved their blushes.
Pochettino went on to admit that the players will need time to build confidence after their recent performances and he added that their next game against Red Star Belgrade is a good opportunity to motivate his players.
“It is good to have a Champions League game [at home to Red Star Belgrade] on Tuesday. It will be tough but hopefully we can start to be solid. This is what we need to build our confidence. This is my sixth season here. It is a situation that we need to fix but we need time. It is impossible to go from zero to 100. Confidence needs time. All together, for sure, I am confident we will recover very soon,” concluded the Argentine.
