Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule has torn an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee during Bayern Munich’s match with FC Augsburg which ended in both the teams sharing the spoils. Joachim Low has expressed that the injury is a big blow to Germany as they prepare for Euro 2020.

Niklas Sule had to be taken off in the 12th minute of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash with FC Augsburg as he suffered with an injury to his left knee. After scans and assessment, Bayern Munich announced on Sunday that the centre back had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be out of action for the entire season. It's a massive blow for both Bayern Munich and Germany but both teams have the depth to cover it.

The German defender has successfully undergone surgery and now faces a race against time to be ready for next year’s Euros reports the ESPN. However, in an interview Joachim Low was shocked to hear the news as one of his worst fears of losing a key centre back came true. The Germany head coach went on to add that the injury alone is bad for the young center-back and he'll need time to get back to his best.

“That's bitter news for Niklas himself, and we wish him all the best. But losing him also hurts us and compromises the development of our young team. Niklas is a face of the new generation. He was an anchor in our plans,” said Low to the ESPN.

The Bavarian club too released a statement on Sule’s situation and wishing him a speedy recovery as they prepare to play the remainder of the season with him. Sule’s absence won’t affect the Bundesliga champions much as they have players like Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard, Javi Martinez are all ready to cover at Sule’s position.

The 24-year-old defender has started all 12 games for Bayern this season but now is set to be replaced by Jerome Boateng who was on the verge of leaving Allianz Arena in the summer after Bayern announced they would let him go for the right price. Sule has made 96 appearances for Bayern since his move from 1899 Hoffenheim in 2017.
