Report | Ed Woodward green-lights moves for Kai Havertz and Thomas Muller
Manchester United are looking to rebuild their squad by adding reinforcements to improve upon their shaky start to the season. The Red Devils had been monitoring both Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz and now have been given the green light to launch offers.
Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward has given the green light for the club to sign Thomas Muller and Kai Havertz reports the Mirror. The two Bundesliga stars currently play for Bayern Munich and Byer Leverkusen respectively and the further Mirror reported that the double move will cost the Red Devils a whopping ÂŁ125 million but Woodward is willing to take the risk.
The Manchester United chief had sent scouts to Germany on Saturday to observe Muller in the Bundesliga with the Bayern star playing 90 minutes and the club won 2-1. Havertz missed Leverkusen’s Bundesliga clash with Werder Bremen due to illness and his creative presence was missed by Peter Bosz, whose side could only earn one point. The German World cup winner Muller has been on Manchester United’s radar on several occasions in the past with the club linked with a move in 2014.
Reports indicate that the believed that Muller would be the perfect first move for David Moyes. But, Muller was an untouchable asset in Bayern’s line up and no move materialized. The 30-year-old forward is no longer Niko Kovac’s first-choice team player with on-loan Barcelona player Philippe Coutinho getting the nod ahead of him. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has emphasized building a young team this season and yet reports indicate that Muller is seen as someone who can bring a lot of experience and can help the younger attackers improve even further.
Havertz, on the other hand, could prove to be the real deal with the starlet finishing last season with 20 goals to his name. That combined with his creative presence on the field has seen reports indicate that the German is considered as Manchester United’s top midfield choice. That’s over James Maddison as the Mirror further added that the Leicester City star would command a fee no less than a £100 million.
