Dejan Lovren has revealed that he did indeed consider leaving Liverpool this summer, amidst interest from AS Roma, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen among others. The 30-year-old made just 18 appearances for the club last season, which saw him linked with a move away, but nothing ever materialized.

With Liverpool only willing to consider a permanent £15 million deal for Lovren, it saw any move for the Croatian international fall apart before the European window closed. He did have serious interest with the likes of AS Roma, AC Milan, and Bayer Leverkusen all considering a move for him this summer, but they all wanted a loan move with an option to buy.

However, in an interview with Goal (h/t Sportske Novosti), Lovren has opened about his summer transfer saga, even adding that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp convinced him to stay at the club in the end.

"I feel relief the transfer window is closed. I got tired of reading and listening every day about me leaving or staying in Liverpool. Everyone wrote 'Dejan is here, Dejan is there', and knew nothing! It annoyed me," said Lovren to Sportske Novosti.

“Yes, I did consider moving, I knew I gave my best for Liverpool, won CL and I am not kind of player that likes to be benched and earn money. Some people around me advised me "What do you care, you are in big club, shut up take the money" But I am not happy on the bench."

"I feel very happy because all the time I felt LFC was by me, I respect that a lot. Klopp told me ‘Listen, buddy, you are top class player, we will not let you go on loan. We need you’. I wanted to leave, it didn't happen, I was told Liverpool needs me and I accepted that," concluded the 30-year-old.
