Reports | Nemanja Matic eager to leave Manchester United
Out of favour Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is looking for an exit, in the January transfer window. The Serbian international has fallen out of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans, while his preferred midfield position has now been taken by United’s academy product Scott McTominay.
English tabloid Sun has reported that Manchester United wanted to offload Nemanja Matic this summer, but the Red Devils could not agree on a deal for the Serbian International as they expected more money for him. Italian newspaper Calciomercato also report that Matic’s agent tried to hold talks about a potential move to AC Milan or Inter Milan, but the clubs stepped away from Matic’s high wage demands.
The 31-year-old midfielder's contract at Old Trafford expires next summer, which could see him leave the club for free. He can also use the option of talking to clubs from January itself, in order to make a pre-contract agreement. Although the former Benfica and Chelsea player has lost his place in the Manchester United starting line up, he is still playing a crucial role for the Serbian national team.
Matic played the full 90 minutes in the 4-2 defeat to Portugal and was also brought on as a substitute as Serbia beat Luxembourg in their Euro 2020 qualifiers. The Serbian is aware that he will have to keep playing first-team football if he does not want to lose his position in the national team, and will be eager to move out of Manchester, in the upcoming transfer windows.
