Despite Chelsea winning their first home game of the season against Brighton, Willian believes that his side needs to be more clinical in front of goal. The Blues struggled to beat goalkeeper Matt Ryan, with 17 shots on goal in the first half, the most they’ve ever managed in over six years.

Chelsea under Frank Lampard has been far from the purring goalscoring machine that many expected the Blues to become. Instead, they’ve been inconsistent, taking three games to get their first win and have now managed to lose just one out of their last six games. It’s been an impressive run and even that loss was handed to them by Liverpool, with Chelsea giving the Reds a very hard time at Stamford Bridge.

However, they’ve been far from perfect and have a long way to go before they can truly be considered as a part of the top six once again. Yet Blues star Willian believes that all his club need to do is become more clinical and they have a chance at surviving. In an interview with Chelseafc.com, the Brazilian went on to admit that they are creating a lot of chances but just cannot seem to take them.

“We needed our first home win. We have been working hard every day, every game and this time we finally got the result, got the three points at home and we have to carry on. We have to continue in the same way. The game could have been 3-0 or 4-0. In the first half we created a lot of chances and I think we have to be more clinical. We cannot miss chances like this and we have to now think about the next game," Willian told Chelseafc.com.

The Blues are not considered to be title contenders this season but that hasn’t stopped the club from dreaming of their chances at a title. While Liverpool and Manchester City have already made this season a two horse race yet again, Willian went on to say that the clean sheet and the confidence that it provides will help the club move forward.

“In the first half I tried a couple of finishes but I was blocked and then finally in the second half I got one and I am happy with the result. The clean sheet means we get confidence now. We will have more confidence in the next games and we have to carry on the same way. If we want to stay at the top of the table we have to win points and win games, so we go for it. We have to keep pushing, and working hard, and I think we can do that,” concluded the Brazilian.
