Reports | Quique Setien to remain Barcelona coach for Champions League in August
Barcelona boss Quique Setien is set to stay in the hot seat for the time being despite the former Real Betis boss admitting that he’s not sure about his future at the club. The La Liga giants suffered a shock defeat to Osasuna on Thursday which handed their rivals Real Madrid the La Liga title.
Barcelona went into lockdown with two points separating them and Real Madrid but their form post the restart has been substandard, to say the least. Until their Thursday night fixture against Osasuna, Barcelona was unbeaten in their nine games but they succumbed to three draws over the same period. However, with Real Madrid winning every game, post the restart, the Los Blancos needed one win in their final two games to seal the title.
But Barcelona’s shock defeat to Osasuna on Thursday confirmed the title as it leaves Real Madrid with a seven-point over Barcelona and one game left in the season. That has many concerned about the performances and the type of football that Quique Setein’s Barcelona are playing with the former Real Betis coach coming under immense pressure. Setien also revealed that he’s concerned about his own future at the club with him unsure as to whether he’d manage the club in the Champions League next month.
However, the Evening Standard has reported that the Barcelona boss was told that he will remain in charge for the Champions League next month. The report revealed that Setien and Barcelona’s board had a meeting after the loss to Osasuna with his future being confirmed in the same meeting. The Standard has also reported that the board hopes that the players and the coaches will benefit from the break between games with the last 16 second leg set to take place against Napoli in August.
