Sevilla president Jose Castro has confirmed that while Tottenham did indeed approach Julen Lopetegui, the Spaniard rejected the ‘dizzying offer’ and has opted to stay with the club. The North London side are looking for a new manager, with them having sacked Jose Mourinho more than two months ago.

Tottenham’s search for their next manager has entered it’s third month with the North Londoners still looking for a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who was sacked more than two months ago. Things haven’t gone well for the club though with them failing to find a new manager despite holding talks with Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso. Not only that, the club reportedly missed out on moves for Erik ten Hag, Julian Nagelsmann and a few others along the way.

However, with the new Premier League season fast approaching, it has many fans and critics concerned especially with Julen Lopetegui being the latest to reject them. That has been confirmed by Jose Castro with him revealing that Lopetegui rejected a “dizzying offer” from the North London side and told Castro that he’s motivated to stay at the club. The Sevilla president also added that he’s happy Lopetegui isn’t driven by economic factors and believes that the contract extension will help the club do well.

“Julen rang me and told me. He said he'd received offers he'd not listened to in addition to a dizzying one from Tottenham. But he said he doesn't forget things and that he is very motivated here. We believed and believe in him, giving him a two-year contract extension, and I'm sure he will bring much more to the club," Castro told Cadena SER.

"You see his ability and leadership every day. Some coaches are more driven by economic factors but Julen is very clear that he is happy here and he even said it would be very difficult to find a better place to work than here."
