Reports | Arsenal looking at Emiliano Buendia as potential alternative to Martin Odegaard

According to Goal, Arsenal are considering a move for Emiliano Buendia as they look at alternatives to Martin Odegaard, who is set to go back to Real Madrid. The Gunners have been long term admirers of the Norwich City playmaker as they look to strengthen the squad and add creativity to their ranks.

Emiliano Buendia has enjoyed an exceptional season and played a major role in Norwich winning the Championship, yet again, by six points. In 39 appearances, the Argentine has scored 15 goals and contributed to 17 assists, more than any other player in the division and in the process has been declared as  Championship’s player of the season. He also created more big chances, completed more through balls and completed more passes in the final third than anyone in the Championship.

The 24-year-old has been one of the hottest prospects emerging out of Norwich City and Goal has reported that Arsenal have kept tracked Buendia for the last few years. The Gunners were credited with an interest last summer but never made the move although things could reportedly change this summer. Owing to the lack of a proper creative player up front and Martin Odegaard’s potential return to Real Madrid following the end of his loan period, Mikel Arteta looks keen to rebuild his squad ahead of the 2021-22 season.

With Norwich pricing him at around £40 million, there’s a real belief among technical director Edu that a potential deal could be achieved and this signing could prove fruitful in the coming seasons. So much remains to be seen regarding Emiliano Buendia’s potential future at Norwich City despite the Canaries getting promoted to the top flight again.
