Kylian Mbappe Sets World Cup Title as Frances Only Target
France captain Kylian Mbappé has made it clear that Les Bleus are heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with one objective, winning the trophy. Drawn in Group I alongside Senegal, Iraq, and Norway, France will begin their campaign on June 16.

Mbappe rejected the idea that reaching the semi-finals would be a success, insisting the squad’s ambition is to become world champions once again.
For the French national team, the objective at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is clear: winning the trophy. Team captain and star forward Kylian Mbappé has made it clear that France is not travelling to the United States simply to reach the latter stages of the tournament but to compete for the title. The 2026 World Cup will begin on June 11 and run until July 19, with 48 teams taking part for the first time in the competition’s history.
France have been placed in Group I alongside Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. Their campaign starts against Senegal on June 16, followed by Iraq on June 23, before concluding the group stage against Norway on June 26. Speaking ahead of the tournament, Mbappé stressed that reaching the semi finals cannot be considered a successful outcome for a nation with France’s ambitions.
He questioned the idea of setting a target below winning the competition, arguing that players should continue striving for the ultimate prize rather than being satisfied with intermediate achievements. The French skipper concluded by saying that lifting the World Cup remains the shared dream of the entire squad as they seek to add another world title to the nation’s football history.
